Callabridge wants everyone, including people with disabilities, to be able to use West’s Mapping Guild. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, and we treat accessibility as an ongoing part of building the site.
What we have done
- Pages use clear headings, labels on every form field and a “Skip to content” link.
- Buttons, links, tabs and dialogs can be reached and used with a keyboard, with visible focus outlines.
- Text and controls are designed for readable contrast, in both the light and dark themes, and follow your device’s light or dark setting.
- Animations, such as the spinning globe and moving backgrounds, stop or slow down when your device is set to reduce motion.
- Status messages (saving, undo and redo, errors) are announced to screen readers.
- Pages work at up to 200% zoom and on small screens.
Known limitations
The heart of the Service is a visual map drawn on a canvas, so some parts are harder to use without sight or a mouse:
- The map picture itself, and painting with the drawing tools, depend on a pointer such as a mouse, trackpad or touch screen.
- Biomes and nations are shown with colors. Hovering over the map gives a text description, and the Atlas tab lists every nation, city, river and lake as text you can read and rename with a keyboard.
- Some third-party pages, such as Stripe’s checkout, are outside our control, although Stripe also works to meet accessibility standards.
We are working to reduce these limitations over time.
